Lion Tamer

I chose this sculpture by Banksy because I love the theme of role reversal, in which the lion becomes the tamer. I like the contrast between the white marble of the lion and the colors of the tamers costume, as well as the blood around his mouth and splattered on his mane. This lion was part of a stunt pulled by Banksy in which he replaced the existing exhibits the Bristol Museum with his own paintings and sculptures. The simple story behind this sculpture is of a lion who became fed up with his tamer and took his vengeance. This is a very powerful piece that speaks to the unethical treatment of animals in today's society simply for the sake of entertainment.
