Grapes

I chose this sculpture because it reminded me of Ai Weiwei's comments in the video shown on Monday about art needing to be useless in order to be seen as art. He takes an everyday useful item and turns it into something that is "useless" but visually pleasing. The sculpture is made up of historic chairs from the Qing Dynasty. Weiwei describes this type of work (i.e. Ming vases) as creating something new out of something old, altering its value, and the way it is perceived/culturally interpreted.
