I chose Maya Lin's "What is Missing?" sculpture both because of its multi-media elements (bronze outer shell, wooden lining, and internal video), and because of the statement it intends to make regarding the destruction of natural habitats and the extinction of different species. I think this piece is informative of an issue that is largely going unacknowledged in the world. I also think it is a good expression of Maya Lin both as a person and as an artist.
